1      Definition

Road Signs and Signals is a Data Type representing road signs, signals, and markings as defined by the Vienna Convention on Road Signs and Signals. It classifies the eight categories of road communication present on or near a road segment.

2      Functional Requirements

Road Signs and Signals shall represent the following eight categories:

  1. Danger Warning Signs – signs warning road users of existing or potential dangers ahead.
  2. Priority Signs – signs indicating priority rules at intersections or road sections.
  3. Prohibitory Signs – signs indicating prohibitions or restrictions applicable to road users.
  4. Mandatory Signs – signs indicating mandatory obligations for road users.
  5. Special Regulation Signs – signs indicating special traffic regulations applicable in specific areas or lanes.
  6. Informatory Signs – signs providing information, services, or guidance to road users.
  7. Traffic Light Signals – light signals regulating traffic movement by colour, position, or flashing mode.
  8. Road Markings – markings applied on the road surface to convey regulations, warnings, or guidance.

5      Conformance Testing

    1. Have the specified type.
    2. Validate against their JSON Schemas.
    3. Conform with their Data Qualifiers.
