1 Definition
A CAV Identifier is a Data Type uniquely identifying a CAV instance. The CAV Identifier may be permanent or temporary, depending on the policies of the governing authority.
2 Functional Requirements
The CAV identification system may include the following information:
- Country of registration (optional).
- Registration number within the country (optional).
- CAV manufacturer identifier.
- CAV model identifier.
- M‑Instance Identifier (optional).
The governance, lifecycle, and assignment rules of CAV Identifiers are essential elements of CAV deployment but are out of scope of this Technical Specification.

4 Semantics
Table 1 specifies the semantics of the CAV Identifier Data Type.

5 Conformance Testing
Data conform to the CAV Identifier Data Type when they validate against its schema. If the schema references other schemas, data referencing a secondary schema shall also validate against that schema, if present, and conform with the Qualifier, if present.
