Definition

Visual Profile (CVE-VSP): How an Object or a Scene looks, as the Acoustic Profile says how it sounds. An Object’s: its colour, metalness, roughness, transparency and emission – what it looks like wherever it is (#/$defs/Object). A Scene’s: its light sources, its ambient light and its atmosphere – what the space does to what is seen in it (#/$defs/Scene). A Data Type refers to the one it has. Like the Acoustic Profile, it belongs to Basic Objects and Basic Scenes.

Functional Requirements

  1. Header: The Data shall have Header “CVE-VSP-V1.0”.
  2. Identification: The Data shall carry the identifiers of the M‑Instance and of the U‑Environment, and a unique identifier and a time (VisualProfileID, VisualProfileTime).
  3. Object or Scene: The Data shall refer to either an Object or a Scene, never to both.
  4. Object: A Visual Profile of an Object may state its colour under white light, its metalness, its roughness, its transparency and the light it emits.
  5. Scene: A Visual Profile of a Scene may state its Light Sources, its ambient light and its atmosphere.
  6. Metadata: The Data shall include DataXMData and may include DescrMetadata.

Semantics

Table 1 gives the properties of the Visual Profile of an Object and Table 2 those of the Visual Profile of a Scene.

Table 1 – Properties of the Visual Profile of an Object

Label Description
Header Header of the Data Type, with the version. (required)
MInstanceID MInstance ID.
UEnvironmentID UEnvironment ID.
VisualProfileID Visual Profile ID. (required)
VisualProfileTime Time at which the Data was produced.
Colour The colour of the surface under white light.
– ColourData Colour Data. (required)
– ColourSpace Colour Space. (required)
Metalness 0 a dielectric surface, 1 a metal.
Roughness 0 a mirror-like surface, 1 a fully matte one.
Transparency Fraction of the light reaching the surface that passes through it.
Emission The light the Object itself gives.
– Colour Colour.
– Luminance In candela per square metre.
DataXMData Data Exchange Metadata of MPAI-PTF: provenance, authorisation, security and confidence of the Data.
DescrMetadata Descriptive metadata (plain text, at most 2048 characters).

Table 2 – Properties of the Visual Profile of a Scene

Label Description
Header Header of the Data Type, with the version. (required)
MInstanceID MInstance ID.
UEnvironmentID UEnvironment ID.
VisualProfileID Visual Profile ID. (required)
VisualProfileTime Time at which the Data was produced.
LightSources The Light Sources of the Scene.
AmbientLight The light reaching every point from no particular direction.
– Colour Colour.
– Illuminance In lux.
Atmosphere What the air does to the light.
– Visibility The distance, in metres, at which an object can still be seen.
– FogColour Fog Colour.
DataXMData Data Exchange Metadata of MPAI-PTF: provenance, authorisation, security and confidence of the Data.
DescrMetadata Descriptive metadata (plain text, at most 2048 characters).

Conformance Testing

Data conforms with Visual Profile if it validates against the schema of Section 3. If a schema contains references to other schemas, conformance of data for the primary schema implies that any data referencing a secondary schema shall also validate against the relevant schema.

Performance Assessment

Not part of this specification.
